PTB is the German NMI and is responsible for the development and maintenance of SI  traceable reference measurement procedures for the priority clinical metabolites as identified in the Guidelines of the German Medical Association by Rili BÄK. The Department of Biochemistry has previously successfully coordinated 3 projects EMPIR JRPs 18HLT10 CardioMet and 15HLT04 ReMiND and EMRP JRP HLT05 Metallomics. PTB is experienced in the development of quantitative measurement methods using MS. Its laboratories house the latest generations of MS and sample handling robotics which will be used in WP1 and WP3. These facilities and expertise will be used predominantly in WP1 - WP3. PTB has recently established a working group dedicated to Standardisation for "Omics" in biomolecular measurements that will focus on the computational aspects of WP2 and WP4. PTB will coordinate the project, lead WP2 and WP6, and participate in all other WPs.


FTMC is the NMI of Lithuania. In metabolomics, FTMC focuses on the comprehensive analysis of small-molecule metabolites in biological systems using chromatography and MS. The institute plays a key role in developing innovative analytical methods, contributing to biomedical, environmental, and pharmaceutical research. FTMC closely collaborates with Vilnius University Hospital "Santaros Klinikos", which is a member of the MetabERN network (European Reference Network for Hereditary Metabolic Diseases). It provides neonatal screening, metabolic testing (including genetic testing and next generation sequencing) for inborn metabolic disorders across Lithuania. FTMC will participate in WP1, WP4, WP5 and WP6.


LGC is the UK’s designated institute (DI) for chemical and biochemical analysis and has considerable experience in developing higher order reference methods and CRMs for small molecules including metabolites, and clinically relevant analytes using MS. LGC has a wide variety of next generation MS and multiple sample handling robots with integrated balances. LGC is also experienced in the purity assessment of standards by quantitative nuclear magnetic resonance (qNMR) and is an accredited RM producer according to ISO17034. These facilities and expertise will be used predominantly in WP1 where LGC is WP leader and for support in WP2 and WP3. LGC will also participate in WP5 and WP6.


TUBITAK is the National Metrology Institute of Türkiye. The institute develops and maintains national measurement reference standards and establishes their traceability to SI units for the priority clinical metabolites. TUBITAK is experienced in the development of analytical methods with results traceable to the  SI using MS and is experienced in metabolite analysis and purity assessment of standards by qNMR, which will be predominantly used in WP1. TUBITAK will participate in all WPs.


The Charité is committed to establishing a comprehensive translational ecosystem research area through its research pillar, the BIH. Charité is experienced in the development and application of validated quantitative measurement methods using MS specifically for metabolomics. Its laboratories house the latest generations European Partnership on Metrology Page 17 of 51 25HLT04 Met4Metab Annex 1 v1.0 of mass spectrometers and associated equipment. These facilities and expertise will be used predominantly in WP2 and WP4, but Charité will also participate in WP1, WP5 and WP6. 


HZI uses data-driven approaches for infection research, including omics-technologies and ML tools. The instate houses a metabolomics core facility including ToF and orbitrap mass spectrometers. The expertise in untargeted metabolomics, analytical chemistry and bioinformatics within the Department of Chemical Biology will contribute significantly to WP2, but HZI will also participate in WP5 and WP6.


TU BS Understanding Health - at the Braunschweig Centre for Systems Biology, the BRICS, researchers aim to understand what health means. To do this, they investigate the molecular connections that keep biological systems in balance. At BRICS, scientists use state-of-the-art methods to look at biological cells and record the status of highly complex metabolic networks holistically and precisely. With the help of computer-assisted, bioinformatic methods, they identify those factors that cause biological systems to become unbalanced – and thus lead to diseases. BRICS uses the knowledge gained in this way to develop innovative therapies. TUBS will participate in WP2, WP4, WP5 and WP6.


UniL, The Faculty of Biology and Medicine (FBM) at the UniL brings together biology, medicine, and healthcare sciences under one roof to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and translational research. Working closely with key partners such as Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV), Unisanté, and Jules Gonin Eye Hospital, the Faculty bridges basic and clinical sciences to advance knowledge and practice. FBM continuously invests in omics technologies, and its Metabolomics and Lipidomics Platform specialises in advanced analytical solutionsfor metabolic phenotyping in population-based and clinical intervention studies. The platform is equipped with five state-of-the-art LC–MS systems and robotic sample preparation. UniL will participate in WP3, WP4, WP5and WP6.

 

BAM is a senior scientific and technical Federal institute with responsibility to the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE). BAM tests, researches and advises to protect people, the environment and material goods. BAM’s MS centre will contribute state-of-the-art instrumental resources in gas and liquid chromatography coupled to high resolution MS (GC/LC-HRMS) and expertise to WP2 and WP3. BAM is an accredited RM producer according to ISO17034, which will be essential for WP3. BAM develops, expands and standardises digital data infrastructures, which will be used for the community RM portal in WP3. BAM will lead WP3 and participate in all other WPs.


   

IAPR The General Chemical State Laboratory (G.C.S.L.) is a service within the Independent Authority of Public Revenue (IAPR) which operates at General Directorate level. The mission of G.C.S.L. is to provide public authorities and citizens with high quality technical services. The laboratory has been developing metabolite reference measurement procedures which will be used predominantly in WP1 while supporting WP2 - WP4. The laboratory facilities house state of the art mass spectrometry facilities as well as capabilities for the assessment of the purity and stability of calibration solutions. IAPR will participate in all WPs.     


                  

LNE is the French NMI. LNE chairs the EMN-TraceLabMed. LNE has extensive expertise in developing reference methods and RMs for the standardisation of clinically relevant biomarkers, proteins and small molecules (cLDL, cHDL, cholesterol, steroid hormones). The laboratories have state of the art QqQ and Orbitrap mass spectrometers used for the development of reference measurement procedures. LNE will contribute in WP1, WP5 and WP6.


CEA, LI-MS is one of the five nodes of MetaboHUB that is the French national facility in metabolomics and fluxomics. It has expertise, know-how and facilities for performing targeted and untargeted MS-based metabolomic analyses of large medical cohorts in the frame of personalised medicine projects. These facilities and expertise will be used in WP2 and WP4. CEA will also participate in WP5 and WP6.


GTU was established upon the foundations and experience of Gebze Institute of Technology (GIT) inheriting and embracing GIT's 22-year heritage. With its infrastructure, capacity, and academic staff, GTU is one of the youngest but most experienced universities of Türkiye. GTU has 126 research laboratories fully equipped with the latest technology, and 4 research and application centres. The laboratories house sample preparation facilities and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometers. With its extensive qNMR knowledge and experience GTU will contribute to WP1, WP5 and WP6.


ICAN is an international research and health care institute in the field of cardiometabolic and nutrition-related diseases (CMD). Located in Europe's largest University hospital, the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital, ICAN has established several state-of-the-art core facilities, ranging from clinical investigations and bio-resource centre to multi-omics analysis, all supported by expert staff. The metabolomics facility houses a high-resolution mass spectrometer coupled with chromatographic systems. These combined with bioinformatics, statistical tools and biochemical databases make up the core metabolomics facility. ICAN will contribute to WP2 leveraging its expertise in untargeted metabolomics to support the research objectives of this project. ICAN will also participate in WP5 and WP6.  


ULiv, Faculty of Health and Life Sciences in the UK investigates research and innovation from discovery to ‘real world’ implementation spanning the breadth of health and life sciences. It focuses on therapeutics innovation, health across the life course, microbiome and infection and cross-cutting technologies. Omics is a core technology applied and the Centre for Metabolomics Research houses seven chromatography-MS platforms for metabolomics/small molecules targeted and untargeted analysis. The Director of CMR, was a founding member of mQACC and is President of the Metabolomics Society. ULiv will lead WP5 and will also participate in WP2, WP3, WP4 and WP6.


Vetmeduni is the only Veterinary University in Austria. They have extensive expertise in developing advanced diagnostics using new technologies, and have a well-equipped core facility for modern MS. Their metabolomics leadership team has a strong background in quality management in metabolomics and translational medicine and has developed, implemented and tested multiple validated methods for metabolomics (SCFA, tryptophan, untargeted). Vetmeduni will lead WP4 and contribute to WP2, WP3, WP5 and WP6. 


Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, is a global leader in life science, driving scientific innovation. Merck is manufacturing and globally distributing chromatographic columns, reagents, and cCRMs that ensure accuracy and reproducibility in complex analyses, including tools for metabolomics labs. Recently, Merck invested in building internal capabilities to develop AI and ML to enhance scientific data processing, standardise and automate analytical data interpretation (e.g. ChemisTwin platform with digital RMs) which will be used in WP2. Merck will also participate in WP5 and WP6.
