WP1 Standardisaton for targeted metabolomics

Task 1.1 aims to select a set of metabolites that will act as direct calibrators for the quantificationof multiple metabolite markers.

 

Task 1.2 aims to investigate the automated preparation of the calibration solutions and calibration blendsthat are necessary for the accurate quantification of the priority measurands in standard solutions and complex biological matrices.

 

Task 1.3 aims to produce a calibration material that can be used by NMIs to characterise the matrix RMs that will be produced in WP3.

 

WP2 Standardisation of untargeted metabolomics

Task 2.1 aims to develop methods for the identification of biomarkers that can be used as calibrators for a larger group of known and unknown metabolites.

 

Task 2.2 aims to produce data for the relative comparison of the different RM and QC materials that will be produced in WP3, or which are in use by the metabolomics community.

 

Task 2.3 aims to develop a community agreed approach for the reporting of quantitative untargeted metabolomic data in units traceable to the SI.

WP3 Development of quality control materials

Task 3.1 aims to source and prepare three matrix reference materials that will be made quickly available to the metabolomics community for use in the normalisation and standardisation of their measurements results.

 

Task 3.2 aims to produce three matrix reference materials to support the metabolomics community in the long term.

 

Task 3.3 aims to characterise a series of representative metabolites that can be used to track the long-term stability of the material and/or as references for target metabolite quantification.

 

Task 3.4 aims to facilitate the exchange of information on the developed QC materials and potential RMs within the user and metrology community and to train the metabolomics community on their most effective use. This will help to ensure the quality of their results.

WP4  Towards transfer of methods from research to clinical use

Task 4.1 aims to assess the impact of, and provide evidence for, the improvements made by using the RMs provided by WP3 and adopting the calibration approaches developed in WP1 and WP2 in the targeted and untargeted measurement of metabolites in plasma/serum.

 

Task 4.2 aims to assess the usefulness of the calibration approaches for the identification and quantification of metabolites in urine samples.

 

Task 4.3 aims to conduct an inter-laboratory study to compare the calibration strategies of metabolomic laboratories in order to assess the impact of harmonisation and standardisation with and without calibrators.

 

WP5 Creating impact

Task 5.1 aims to spread the outcomes of the project through the webpage, social media platforms, several papers and presentation on different conferences. The consortium is also planning several workshops to project related topics. Creating impact within this project will support all relevant stakeholders from tbd.
